Canada imposes certain tariffs and quotas on cars imported to Canada from the U.S., but not on imports from other countries.
Exports of motor vehicles from other countries to Canada have increased to meet the demand previously filled by U.S. exports.
“If the tariffs proceed, Canadian retaliation is likely, with higher tariffs likely placed on goods primarily produced in Republican-run states,” he said.
This is related to a United States Trade Representative’s Section 301 investigation under the Trade Act of 1974 regarding the importation of goods produced with forced labor.
The report said that countries with partial bans may see 10% tariffs, and others could see 12.5% tariffs.
