A decision by DUP Education minister Paul Givan to spend most of the money previously earmarked specifically for Irish medium school facilities on other projects has been criticised.
Paul Givan’s department has said Irish medium school Scoil an Droichid was among the projects which received “available capital funding”, redirected from the funds previously earmarked for Iontaobhas.
He said pupils in the Irish medium sector are suffering due to a lack of suitable infrastructure in schools.
Pat Sheehan, vice chair of the Education committee said he believed it was an attempt to degrade the Irish language by the DUP minister.
“The facts are clear and the investment I have made into Irish-medium education demonstrates my support for this sector within education,” he said.
