According to a notification issued by the Department of Social Welfare, the committees have been formed to “strengthen coordination, monitoring and implementation of drug demand reduction initiatives at the State, district and block levels.” At the district level, the Deputy Commissioner will chair the committee, with the District Welfare Officer as Member Secretary. Other members include the Superintendent of Police, District Legal Services Authority, Medical Superintendent, District Education Officer (representing Higher and School Education), CPDO and two NGOs nominated by the Deputy Commissioner. The Block Level Committee will be chaired by the Block Development Officer, with the CDPO as Member Secretary. The State Level Committee will meet quarterly, while District and Block Level Committees will meet monthly, it added.
