The City of Windhoek has officially launched a comprehensive, N$12 million streetlight survey project to modernise the management of its public lighting infrastructure, boosting public safety and improving municipal service delivery across the capital. It involves the physical inspection, auditing, and digital mapping of more than 17,000 municipal streetlight poles across Windhoek. Dedicated Ulefone field devices have also been procured, configured and integrated with the survey system, enabling survey teams to capture and transmit information electronically in real time. The City is also finalising logistical arrangements, including a dedicated project fleet, to facilitate the efficient deployment of survey teams across all suburbs. Upon completion, the project will deliver the City’s first comprehensive digital streetlight asset register, together with the electrical supply network serving it.
