Ongoing problems with Hitachi Rail’s new Class 810 Aurora trains have led East Midlands Railway (EMR) to cut its intercity services between London St Pancras and the Midlands. The problems come despite the Class 810 fleet being introduced to replace the ageing Class 222 trains. EMR stressed that the Class 810 trains meet all required safety standards and entered passenger service only after completing testing and receiving regulatory approval. The temporary timetable will remain in place while EMR and Hitachi Rail work to improve the reliability of both fleets. The rollout of the Class 810 trains will continue in a controlled manner throughout 2026 and 2027.
