The number of police officers deployed for each of the seven FIFA World Cup games in Vancouver reached as high as 1,300 per match, according to new information released Monday by the Vancouver Police Department. Don Chapman, who also served as co-lead of the Integrated Safety and Security Unit, created for the tournament. The 1,300 officers deployed on match days was unprecedented for the VPD and its policing partners and surpassed one-day deployments for the 2010 Winter Olympics. Officers escorted 16 fan marches and provided security for team buses travelling to and from games and practices.
