Salmon Arm city council will advocate for the creation of an agricultural municipality initiative after a new report shows the city spends $3 million more servicing ALR properties than it receives in taxation. Russell said the City of Salmon Arm spends $5.9 million annually to service agricultural properties on ALR lands. “So the City of Salmon Arm is subsidizing the cost of service for ALR lands by approximately $3 million.” Salmon Arm will join several other small agricultural communities in a meeting with Popham about the issue at the UBCM convention in Vancouver this September.
