A Centreville man was arrested following a standoff with law-enforcement personnel last week in Centreville. Spence said Merkle had driven a vehicle onto the sidewalk next to the department and stopped with the front of his vehicle facing the building. Deputies located Merkle and his vehicle near the west village limits, where a standoff ensued and the St. Joe Valley Special Response team was activated. Traffic in the area was stopped while deputies negotiated with him. Merkle was charged with operating while intoxicated (third offense) and four counts of resisting and obstructing, Spence said.
