These consequences further exacerbate social inequalities linked to housing, transport, working conditions and income. We know that this is mainly due to the accumulation in the atmosphere of vast quantities of CO₂ emitted through the burning of fossil fuels. It is worth noting that the agreement did not even mention fossil fuels. COP 28 (2022) had half-heartedly adopted the objective of a ‘transition away from fossil fuels’. Furthermore, whilst heatwaves do not cause patriarchal violence, they create conditions that exacerbate situations that are already violent.
