Commonplace, a new precision-built housing platform, has been launched by Vancouver architect Walker McKinley and partners Edmund Lee and Rich Frontain. The platform introduces a new approach to how homes are designed, manufactured and delivered. Creating a mass-produced, prefabricated kit of parts means reducing construction timelines from an indeterminate stretch of months — or even years — to a matter of weeks. Commonplace brings architecture, engineering, manufacturing and construction into a single integrated system. Rather than treating prefabrication as a compromise, the platform uses standardization as a tool for greater precision, performance and design quality.
