July 21 1926A case of international importance opened here today on the application of the ex-Kaiser [Wilhelm II], who is seeking an order with regard to the property belonging to his family in South-West Africa. The respondents are the Administrator of South-West Africa and the Registrar of Deeds of that territory. Despite all his land and properties being confiscated by the League of Nations following the First World War, former Kaiser Wilhem II sought unsuccessfully to regain possession of property in South-West Africa (present day Namibia). He recalled that he had occasion recently to refer to the anomalous position of the Land Bank and the difficulty that existed in carrying it on. Despite some opposition, Bank of Ireland bought the National Land Bank and renamed it the National City Bank Ltd.
