THE CANADIAN PRESS/Ethan CairnsElections BC says the petition to recall Vancouver-Quilchena MLA Dallas Brodie has failed. The elections agency says the bid to recall the OneBC leader collected less than a quarter of the required number of signatures to initiate her ouster from the legislature. The petition's supporters had said that Brodie put her new political party ahead of the needs of her constituents and local priorities like affordability, health care and community servicesElections BC says the petition's proponent, Brodie and registered advertisers have until mid-August to submit financial disclosures to B.C. Elections BC says there have been 31 attempts to recall MLAs since the province passed its recall legislation in 1995, and none has ever met the act's requirements, although in 1998, opponents of Paul Reitsma collected enough signatures, but he resigned before the petition was certified.
