A 67-year-old man drowned during a mass swimming event in Kelowna, B.C., this past weekend.
RCMP say he was participating in an event called Across the Lake Swim, which encourages people of all ages to take part in an open water challenge from West Kelowna to Hot Sands Beach in Kelowna.
Police say the man had started his race at 7:50 a.m. PT, but that at 9:50 a.m. he was found unresponsive by another swimmer and was pulled to shore.
Organizers of Across the Lake Swim Kelowna say the open water swim event has been running since 1949.
