The main reason many Mac Pro users were resistant to Apple Silicon is the limitations it has in working with expansion cards–more specifically, third-party graphics cards. Gurman reports that Apple also had an M3 Ultra Mac Pro in development, alongside the Intel Mac Pro. Code-named J190, it was slated to ship at the same time as the M3 Ultra Mac Studio, back in March 2025. Instead, Apple never updated the Mac Pro again, and eventually discontinued the line this past March. Don’t expect a Mac Pro comeback: “I don’t anticipate Apple bringing back the Mac Pro anytime soon–if ever,” said Gurman.
