A man was arrested Monday morning following an explosion outside a federal building in Manhattan that houses dozens of government agencies. Initial investigations suggested the suspect had set off fireworks in a garbage can outside 26 Federal Plaza, where the FBI, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, and federal immigration court all have offices. During President Donald Trump’s second term, the building has become the site of protests in response to federal immigration agents making violent arrests outside court hearings on the 12th floor. Police urged people to avoid the area and said they should expect traffic delays, disruptions, and street closures nearby.
