['Ronald Zajac']
Brockville Recorder & Times
Early projections point to a half-million-dollar deficit in Brockville’s operating budget, driven mainly by a large projected shortfall at the police service .
Article contentBrockville council’s general committee was scheduled on Tuesday to receive city staff’s latest budget variance report, part of a series of in-year snapshots of the city’s fiscal performance.
The latest variance report, which shows the city’s fiscal position as of May 31, points to an overall projected deficit of $568,536.
The variance report by city finance director Lynda Ferguson notes the projected deficit includes the expected Brockville Police Service shortfall of $555,045, and a projected deficit by the city departments of $13,491.
The overall deficit on the city operations side is offset somewhat by a combined projected surplus of more than $120,000 in the separately-accounted water and sewer departments.
