For those who do need big storage, the Synology DS225+ can be a great idea, but it's hard to recommend.
At the time of writing, the cheapest 4TB NAS drive I found from a reputable outlet was the Western Digital Red Plus, at $195.
Both iCloud and Dropbox will give you 2TB for $9.99 a month, and that's cloud storage accessible 24/7 from anywhere you have a connection.
