From the perspective of Internal Family Systems (IFS), you're experiencing a distinct state of consciousness called Self. Most people grasp Self best experientially, but sometimes we need words to introduce and explain the concept. IFS calls them the 8 Cs:Curiosity: When we are curious, prediction errors function as useful information. We’re not suggesting that predictive processing can fully explain the nature of Self or that neuroscience can replace the inquiry of IFS into subjective experience. Understanding Self in this way bridges first-person experience and neuroscience, making a profound idea more accessible without diminishing its mystery.
