Through the county’s Search and Rescue Paramedic Program, they’re able to deliver both, no matter where an emergency occurs.
The program, which started in 2018, brings together Summit Fire & EMS, the Summit County Rescue Group and the Red, White & Blue Fire Protection District to offer advanced medical care in remote locations across the county.
Though the Summit County Rescue Group is the main responding agency for backcountry or remote emergencies, they’re often limited in what types of care their rescuers are able to provide.
“Summit County Rescue Group is a basic life support organization,” said Ben Butler, a mission coordinator for the rescue group.
“Anytime the needed level of care exceeds the basic life support needs, that is when we call in the search and rescue paramedic program.”
