PSA: Don't Use An Old Charging Adapter For Your Rivian R2. It May Melt
['Nico Demattia']
InsideEVs
What happens if you use a subpar charging adapter to plug your Rivian R2 into a CCS charge station?
Just ask, journalist Tom Moloughney, host of the State of Charge YouTube channel, who tested out the R2's charging capabilities using an older Tesla adapter.
While that's fine, it does mean that Rivian had to increase the R2's amperage draw while charging to maintain a similar speed.
However, there are plenty of adapters on the market that are capable of handling the R2's amperage draw, including adapters from Tesla and one from Rivian itself.
So if you have a Rivian R2, or any EV that can draw 600 amps or more, seriously look into the sort of charging adapter you have and make sure it can handle it.
