Summer on Sanibel is a great time of year to enjoy the island. However, the summer season also brings afternoon storms and one of Florida’s most serious weather hazards: lightning. As we move through the summer, I encourage everyone to stay weather aware, take thunder and lightning alerts seriously, and seek proper shelter at the first sign of danger. We also want to alert the community to a recent fraud report involving emails that falsely appear to come from the city of Sanibel Planning Department. Whether facing severe weather or financial fraud, awareness and preparation are two of the best ways we can protect ourselves and one another.
