Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey stormed into theaters this weekend and delivered the biggest global opening of Nolan's career, pulling in an incredible $264.1 million worldwide. It's also the third-biggest opening weekend of the year, trailing only The Super Mario Galaxy Movie ($372.5 million) and Toy Story 5 ($312 million). That gives IMAX its biggest opening in comparable markets, surpassing Avengers: Endgame. Nolan's Oscar-winning drama launched with $35 million worldwide in IMAX before finishing its run with an outstanding $180 million in the premium format. This opening weekend is another reminder that audiences will absolutely show up for original event filmmaking when it's done at this level.
