Letterkenny University Hospital (LUH) has made significant progress in addressing cancer care delays, with a new report revealing that the number of patients receiving timely treatment has more than doubled since the beginning of the year. Improvements such as extra chemotherapy chairs have helped serious address capacity issues at the hospital’s haematology / oncology ward. Letterkenny University Hospital established a working group this year to address the challenges it faces in meeting targets for SACT (Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy) start times. A business case has also been prepared to extend the opening hours of the Haematology Oncology Day Ward. The hospital processed 153 referrals to begin cancer treatment in the first seven months of 2025.
