In New York City, it’s clear there’s an appetite for a bold departure from business as usual in the Democratic Party. Currently, eleven members of the New York State legislature, representing different areas of NYC, and three members of the New York City Council are DSA members. In addition to the massive canvassing operation, Mamdani’s campaign focused heavily on social media, reaching New Yorkers through their phones. The social media campaign is a driving factor behind Mamdani’s success with young people. Endorsement and outreachIn the beginning of the campaign, Mamdani snagged a major endorsement from the NYC chapter of the United Auto Workers, which includes many local white-collar workplaces.
