And in 2023, Turang was found at the Russian Federation Archive in Moscow—a copy had survived there after the film had screened at the Afro-Asian Film Festival in Tashkent, Uzbekistan in 1958. A couple of weeks ago, Bunga presented Turang to a packed audience at the International Film Festival of Rotterdam (IFFR). Some of the films in the IFFR series were unabashed, if impressively mounted, works of propaganda. To see it brought back to life at IFFR was nothing short of thrilling.
