When I was a kid, we didn't have the extra money to buy Halloween costumes, so we did with what we had lying around the house. The Halloween costumes that people wore before Hollywood influenced the choices of what was considered the most popular look, which were outright spooky. Some people get so into Halloween that they'll have multiple costumes to wear to various occasions.
