In what likely came as a shock to the cybersecurity community, several well-known threat actors and groups, including the newly formed 'Scattered Lapsus$ Hunters,' announced that they are shutting down their operations. The announcement was posted last week on the hacking marketplace BreachForums and Scattered Lapsus$ Hunters’ public Telegram channel via a farewell letter addressed the "World" at large. "We LAPSUS$, Trihash, Yurosh, yaxsh, WyTroZz, N3z0x, Nitroz, TOXIQUEROOT, Prosox, Pertinax, Kurosh, Clown, IntelBroker, Scattered Spider, Yukari, and among many others, have decided to go dark." Last month, members of Scattered Spider, Lapsus$ and ShinyHunters — notorious cybercrime groups that researchers believe stem from "The Com" — appeared to join forces under a new banner, "Scattered Lapsus$ Hunters," on a public Telegram channel. Reliaquest initially reported last month that it believed the Scattered Spider hacking collective would soon shift their focus to the financial sector.
