The vending machines are part of a growing movement in the United States to provide easy access to harm-reduction resources. Some, like the Health To Go machines, also offer general health and hygiene items such as soap, toothpaste and toothbrushes, and pregnancy tests. The machines also have dispensed nearly 1,900 doses of naloxone, 1,700 wound care kits, and over 1,500 safer sex kits. We interviewed 10 vending machine users in Reading in the winter and spring of 2025. For people who feel uncomfortable in traditional health care settings or talking to someone in person, these vending machines offer a judgment-free alternative.
