October 3, 2025RED FM News DeskSchools across Alberta are preparing to shut down as the province braces for a provincewide teachers strike set to begin Monday. The Alberta Teachers’ Association (ATA), representing 51,000 members, voted overwhelmingly earlier this week to reject the province’s latest contract offer. The proposal included a 12 per cent wage increase over four years and a commitment to hire 3,000 additional teachers. ATA president Jason Schilling acknowledged the strike would inconvenience families but said the union’s fight is ultimately for students. He urged parents to put pressure on the provincial government to prioritize education and reach a fair deal.
