Chairman Matthew Durham of Oconee County Council declares the county stands firm against a developer’s plans for a 5,200-home development at Newry. The development would fall on 600 acres between SC 130 and the Old Clemson Highway, but Durham says neither road could handle the traffic. In a letter last week to Amanda Brock, county administrator, Mark Hart of East Shore South LLC of Chapin requests the county to reconsider a Planned Development for what he says would be housing for middle income buyers, young couples, single professionals and retirees. Council Chairman Durham terms a Planned Development agreement for the project would skirt county ordinance 2024-18, the county’s density standards. But the developer’s letter states, “We will discuss any significant problems that you see in our plan, but we do not feel compelled to recognize the Ordinance 2024-18, or unreasonable density restrictions or lot size limitations.”VK Facebook Twitter Google+
