Dublin city council last night voted against nominating any candidate for the Presidential Election.
The country's biggest local authority heard pitches from a number of hopefuls looking to take over from Michael D Higgins in the Áras.
Conor McGregor was due to address DCC but the former MMA fighter announced yesterday he was withdrawing from the election campaign saying the process is "fixed".
In the end, fifty councillors voted in favour of not nominating a candidate, while nine voted against that motion.
To be eligible to run, a candidate must be nominated either by 20 members of the Oireachtas or four local authorities.
