This week, following the assassination of Charlie Kirk, posts popped up online stating “If your pastor didn’t talk about XYZ this week, it’s time to find a new church.” The message was clear: if your pastor didn’t say what you wanted them to say last Sunday, it might be time to look for another church. “Your pastor is not your puppet,” said Ken Claytor, pastor of Alive Church in Orlando. Caveat: This does not apply to anyone who heard pastors say extreme and inflammatory things on Sunday. Glenn Packiam, pastor of Rockharbor Church, shared that he’s heard from many pastors this week trying to resist that pressure. But sticking it out is what turns a congregation into the kind of community the Church was meant to be.
