At an event in New York on Sunday, BMW announced that the next-generation BMW X5 will be offered with five different powertrain options: gasoline, diesel (in select markets), plug-in hybrid, battery-electric and, beginning in 2028, a hydrogen fuel cell model. The move makes the X5 the first BMW to carry such a broad range of drivetrains in a single model line. Hydrogen vehicles remain niche, and the infrastructure to support them is in its infancy.
