For Kristen Harris, her recent dual appointment as executive assistant to Vicksburg Police Department (VPD) Chief Larry Burns and VPD data and compliance specialist is a perfect fit. When the department received its NIBRS (National Incident-Based Reporting System) certification in 2020, Harris was the sole trainer at the time for the state of Mississippi. “This position brings direct benefit to the police department by ensuring compliance with state and federal reporting requirements, particularly with NIBRS,” Harris said. “Initially, before 2020, Vicksburg was only reporting summary reports,” Harris said. “NIBRS tells a more detailed story of your crime data and can help an agency tremendously,” Harris said.
