Cold therapy is the practice of immersing yourself in cold water. Dr Majdoline Jayoushe, a specialist in internal medicine and associate professor at the Mount Sinai Faculty Practice Primary Care Associates, says that swimming in an unheated pool counts as cold therapy – as does a quick blast in a cold shower. “Cold water immersion, in the form of cold water or ice bathing, has been shown to have many benefits for the cardiovascular and endocrine system, which regulates the production of hormones in the body, as well as positive effects on our psyche and immune system,” says Jayoushe.
