Three dead after mining pit collapse at Manso Takorase

A tragic mining accident at Manso Takorase in the Amansie South District of the Ashanti Region has claimed the lives of three persons after a pit collapsed on them in the afternoon of Wednesday, October 1.
The incident has once again reignited public concern over the dangers associated with illegal small-scale mining, popularly known as galamsey.
After visiting the scene, some opinion leaders at Manso Takorase appealed to government and the Minerals Commission to intensify regulation of mining activities and to provide alternative livelihood opportunities for the youth to reduce the community’s dependence on unsafe mining ventures.
The Amansie South District is noted for extensive mining activities and has in recent years, recorded several similar accidents, raising urgent calls for stronger enforcement of mining laws, and education on safety practices.
For now, the community of Manso Takorase is in mourning as families of the deceased grapple with their painful loss.
