Widely considered to be the first slasher flick in Hollywood history, Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho (now streaming on Peacock) served as the blueprint for everything from Black Christmas to Halloween to Scream. To quote the late, great critic Roger Ebert: "The slashing chords of Bernard Herrmann’s soundtrack substitute for more grisly sound effects. This remains the most effective slashing in movie history, suggesting that situation and artistry are more important than graphic details." How Psycho made movie history with a shot of a flushing toiletAs you may or may not know, the Hitchcock-directed classic was the very first mainstream movie to feature the visual of a toilet being flushed. The film is also available to rent and/or purchase from Universal Pictures Home Entertainment alongside its three sequels and 1998 remake.
