According to recent reports, the Port of Los Angeles has embarked on an ambitious journey to establish a new container terminal, potentially spanning the next decade. The port has issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) inviting interested parties to engage in the pre-development phase of this project, designated as Pier 500. The Port of Los Angeles is home to seven major container terminals and six intermodal rail yards dedicated to container handling. In 2021 alone, it reached an impressive peak of 10.7 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units), followed closely by nearly 10.3 million TEUs in 2024. The entire process leading up tothe realizationofPier500 will encompass comprehensive environmental evaluations mandatedbythe California Environmental Quality Actandthe National Environmental Policy Act(NEPA).
