“We have reached the point where we need to phase out the import of eggs [hatching eggs] in the near future. It may take another 5 to 7 years, if we and our scientists begin working on this immediately, to eliminate imports [in this sector],” the president said. “Total dependence on imports does not guarantee the stable operation of poultry farms,” Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed. “Every shipment of birds carries the risk of introducing new infections and disrupting supplies (this is very relevant).” In this regard, the president inquired about the plans to address the issue of insufficient capacity at parent stock facilities for both egg and meat production.
