When politicians resort to insult and name calling, it is a sign that they have nothing convincing to say. Referring to President Trump as “Nazi” and “threat to democracy,” Charlie Kirk’s talks as “hate speech” or ICE as a Gestapo are examples of a cognitive (thought) distortion that psychiatrists call “labeling.”Political speech often displays many forms of cognitive distortion. These are only other forms of cognitive distortions. This is not hate speech. We all have cognitive distortions.
