The Department for Transport (DfT) has issued a tender notice seeking a Delivery Agent to manage the disposal of surplus land and properties stemming from the cancelled High Speed 2 (HS2) Phase 2 project. The portfolio in question comprises land and properties previously acquired for the now-defunct HS2 Phase 2 development, which would have connected Birmingham to Manchester and the West Midlands to Leeds. In July this year, transport secretary Heidi Alexander officially lifted safeguarding on the land between the West Midlands and Leeds, paving the way for its resale. However, the land purchased between West Midlands and Manchester is still safeguarded, suggesting that the government maintains interest in using it. This disposal initiative will require a Delivery Agent to work closely with the DfT, HS2 Ltd, various advisors and other stakeholders.
