On March 7, 2025, a large, overhanging rock fell from above Belgrave Road, damaging the road, railings, steps, and pedestrian areas. The incident, which saw the collapse of the now infamous ‘Ventnor Rock’, left both Belgrave Road and Esplanade Road below covered in rubble. Since then, Belgrave Road has remained closed. The steel netting system, similar to that already in use on nearby Gills Cliff Road, is being installed to provide long-term protection and stability.
