Only Greece, with a student-teacher ratio of 8.4, had a smaller average classroom size. Germany had a student-teacher ratio of 13.4 and Belgium’s was 10, while the EU average was 12.2. Over the same period, the total number of secondary school teachers and academic staff in Luxembourg increased by 17%, to just under 6,500. Nine out of ten early education instructors and three-quarters of primary school teachers are women. While gender balance is roughly equal in secondary school, the proportion of female teachers drops to about a third after high school.
