More infoA diesel-like smell was observed in a Cambridgeshire town near its river.
Locals near St Ives town bridge on Tuesday night (September 30) reported a strong smell.
A member of staff at Amore, a restaurant next to the River Great Ouse, said the smell was “quite bad”.
“It was coming from across the other side of the bridge and it smelt across most of the area.” The Environment Agency was made aware of the “potential pollution incident” on Tuesday.
An EA spokesperson said: “We were made aware of a potential pollution incident on the Great River Ouse at St Ives on Tuesday, September 30.
