On Thursday, Esmaeil Baghaei, spokesperson for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, criticized the G7’s backing of the United States and three European nations in reimposing UN Security Council sanctions on Iran. Baghaei condemned the action as “illegal and unjustified,” asserting that it represents a breach of international law. In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Foreign Ministers of the G7 and the EU’s High Representative expressed their support for the E3’s decision to trigger the snapback mechanism, thereby reinstating United Nations Security Council sanctions and other restrictions on Iran. On September 19, the 15-member United Nations Security Council was unable to pass a resolution aimed at blocking the reinstatement of international sanctions on Iran. He stated that the United States is primarily responsible for the current circumstances, citing its “illegal” withdrawal from the nuclear agreement in 2018 and subsequent breaches of international law.
