To mark the feast of St Francis and the 800th anniversary of the Canticle of the Creatures, a solemn celebration will be held tomorrow at the church of the Franciscan Friars in Għajnsielem. Fr Walter Vassallo OFM will lead sung vespers at 5.45pm, followed by a concelebrated mass and the Transitus of St Francis, commemorating his peaceful passing from this life to eternal glory. On Sunday, a procession with the statue of St Francis will be held along St Anthony street, at 9.30am, accompanied by a band march. Upon arrival in front of the church of St Anthony, the blessing of animals and pets will take place. A commemorative concert to mark the blessing of the new bells and the 800th anniversary of St Francis’s Canticle of the Creatures will be held at 6.30pm.
