Hers was one of the many SDA applications flagged by the Social Security Department, and which the police began investigating in October 2022. The board of the Social Security Department visited the woman for five minutes and remained outside her home. During the interrogation, the woman said she was willing to refund the money she received based on the forged documents. It also held that the woman did not make use of the forged documents since she consistently said she did not know they existed. The court, presided over by Magistrate Leonard Caruana, acquitted the woman of all the charges brought against her.
