The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Minna Operations Office, has conducted a sensitisation exercise in vulnerable communities across riverine Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Niger State, following the release of water from Shiroro Dam due to rising levels from continuous rainfall.
Head of Operations, NEMA Minna, Mr Hussaini Isah, and Director General, NSEMA, Comrade Abdullahi Baba Arah, led the sensitisation exercise, emphasising the need to adhere strictly to critical flood preparedness and safety measures.
The agency also urged residents in flood-prone areas to immediately evacuate to safer grounds and suspend farming and fishing activities along riverbanks.
The body hinted that the sensitisation exercise was interactive, widely received, and generated strong community engagement.
The emergency agency revealed that the exercise also highlighted the urgent need for sustained awareness, preparedness, and stakeholder collaboration to mitigate flood risks and safeguard lives and livelihoods across Niger State.
