Jamie Sarkonak: The police pleas for bail reform that fall on deaf Liberal ears
['Jamie Sarkonak']

Article contentThese committees need to hear from the people who actually run bail hearings — and who see some of the most absurd releases known to man.
These would be the Crown prosecutors and common-sense defence lawyers, people who can explain the technical problems they run into with the Criminal Code and give a frontline view of what’s gone so wrong.
They’ll also be the least willing to testify because the brutal truth about judicial failings is bound to offend.
Which means that hauling these people in for a hearing might take some Parliamentary summoning and perhaps oath-swearing.
Whether the justice committee is up for that is an open question.
