At the end of the first period of the Leafs' second-to-last pre-season game against the Detroit Red Wings, Leafs forward Matthew Knies was called for an illegal check to the head when he caught Wings defenceman Simon Edvinsson with a bit of a blindside elbow. Will Knies Face Supplemental Discipline? Despite there being no apparent injury to Edvinsson on the play, Knies could find himself on a call with the Department of Player Safety, given that it is the type of play they are trying to get out of the game. If the Leafs' budding star were to face any supplemental discipline, it would likely only be a fine, but with the league previously making an example of Leafs players, a suspension is possible.
